Ebben a topikban a vívás harcművészeti aspektusait szeretnénk megvitatni. Elsősorban a történelmi európai vívással, ezen belül szablyavívással szeretnénk foglalkozni, de minden más vívás képviselője is szívesen látott vendég a topikban.

A szövegben az szerepel, hogy "Ez a hatvanöt vívómester január elsejéig oklevelet kap, ugyanakkor pedig megszűnnek az összes régi oklevelek." Viszont a felsorolás csak 62 fő nevét tartalmazza!
Szembetűnő, hogy nem látjuk a kor legismertebb vidéki vívómesterének, id. Gerevich Aladár nevét.
We all know, that Arlow, Barbasetti, Feldmann were the fencing instructors in kuk Theresianische Militaracademie in Wien. We all know that some of other fencing masters finished these courses of Weiner-Neustadt.

But maybe we have somewhere the information of the curriculum? I mean - who exactly were the attendees of the courses (for example, Arlow directly states about the cadets of 16-17 years old), how many times per week ? What was the structure of fencing tutorship (most probably - master + two instructors)?"
Kíváncsi vagyok arra, hogy milyen válaszokat fog kapni a srác.
"I don’t get a lot of backyard cutters, but I do get people who are into gekken, the sparring part. There were videos of me sparring with one very well-known HEMA instructor, Axel Pettersson. He’s a champion fencer. Man, his reputation is extremely high in tournaments in HEMA. He visited my dojo; he heard of me from Michael Edelson. We had a very friendly sparring session. There were no hostilities or anything at all. He’s a great fencer. I love fighting strong people. To me, that’s what makes it so enjoyable and fun.
The video of that got leaked out. I told him at first, “I took the YouTube video, here’s some links, but we shouldn’t share publicly.” Why? Then it’s going to go online, and people are going to be: “Eastern Martial Arts versus Western Martial Arts!” I really don’t like that type of stuff. He did share it though for a little bit of time, but he took it off.
But during that little time, there were people in China, hackers, that were able to get that, got the videos, and it just spread. It spread big time and I wasn’t even aware of this. I would get Chinese students who would come to the dojo: “Oh hi! This is our dojo. If you have any questions, please let me know.” Oh, can we take Instagram pictures with you?” “Sure. Why not?” They’d take a picture and thank me. Later on, though, I had some of those students actually join and they would say, “Sensei, you don’t know? That video of you with Axel Pettersson fighting, it was huge in China!” In China, that was a huge trend. There are not a lot of HEMA practitioners in China, so when they saw that, they wanted to meet me and someone to challenge me. [Laughs]
So, I would get people who would come and challenge me in gekken. It was more so that than backyard cutters. So that was fun and very interesting! [Laughs]"

Egyértelmű, hogy egy olimpiai vívótermet látunk.

"Sparring with bokken is absolutely dangerous, most kenjutsu schools that spar like Yagyu Shinkage ryu and Asayama Ichin ryu use fukuro shinai to avoid killing each other. Other ryuha like Tennen rishin ryu directly use bogu and shinai. No ryuha spars with bokuto because their students would be dropping dead each class."
A múlt héten az egyik edzésen csak ketten voltunk: a legidősebb tagunk és én. Iskolai szünet meg minden, szóval a nagypapa elhozta az unokáját. Korábban a srác már eljött megnézni az edzést, volt kezében sportkard meg BSZ-5, de valahogy nem "varázsolta el" az egész, hiába igyekezett kedved csinálni hozzá a nagyapja.
Miután vívtam vele egyet a barantás szablyával, most újra megkérdezte:
- Kisunokám, van-e kedved kipróbálni?
- Hát... majd máskor - érkezett a kissé bizonytalan válasz.
Nem is tudom miért, de úgy voltam vele, hogy tegyünk egy próbát! Mondom a nyolcéves srácnak, hogy inkább két kézzel fogja a számára kissé nehéz BSZ-5-t (ez a példány 815 g), ezt lehet olyan szamurájosan is csinálni. Mutattam így állnak a kendósok, így meg az európai hosszúkardosok. Valahogy kedve lett az egészhez és egész jól mozgott, kimondottan értelmes dolgokat lehetett vele csinálni.
Középtávolság, hegyek a vívóvonal felett, nyitom a rést balra, később jobbra, függőleges alkarvágás.
Nagyon bátortalanul vágott, biztattam, hogy lehet erősebben is, persze visszaemelés nélkül, pici lépéssel. 2 vágást szándékosan beengedek, a 3. kivédve, puhán visszavágva vagy jelezve, hogy ez bement volna. (Nem volt olyan pici fejvéd, ami neki kellett volna, pluszban jól tudtam vigyázni rá.)
Utána még odáig is eljutottunk, hogy a 2 hegy érintkezik, léptetem, 2 lépés előre, résnyitás stb.
"This is an interesting bout and a rare example of kenjutsu in use on Youtube, with a number of good and bad point worth looking at.
The first and most impressive thing is that these two have actually managed to transcend the static nature of traditional kata and apply the waza in a dynamic way, this is something many Japanese-trained martial artists either can't do or never dare attempt. The second good thing is that as they are fencing they are still largely sticking to traditional technique, it hasn't become wild flailing indistinguishable from bad martial arts the world over, it looks distinctly Japanese.
On the other hand, there are a number of areas that could be improved. The first and most obvious is that there is a disconnect between the blade work and the foot work, they either aren't moving their feet at all, or the steps are out of sync with their attacks and defenses. This is why we can see the kenjutsuka leaning back and forth awkwardly throughout the video, they know instinctively that they are either too close or too far a way, but they aren't using their feet to adjust the distance in real time to solve the issue. In addition, many of the "cuts" we see with the bokken are actually being delivered as percussive hits with none of the push-pull mechanic necessary to really cut with a sharp blade. Beyond this, it is clear throughout the exchanges that the kenjutsuka know a variety of techniques, but not necessarily when and why they should be used. Long exchanges repeatedly occur because both parties are repeating the same action over and over again, typically head cut, parry, head cut, parry. If instead the sequence had looked more like head cut, parry, feint of head cut, cut stomach the exchanges could have either been more decisive or developed into a higher level of complexity. Likewise some of the flashier techniques like the one-handed cut are perfectly viable in a bout, but only if you understand the timing and proper distance to set them up.
Critique aside, its a good video and everything I listed above is quite normal for newer practitioners or those who haven't had much experience with live bouts. Work on your fundamentals (including remaining calm when a bokken is coming at your face!) and you should be able to iron out the kinks.

Az amerikai polgárháborúban sokkal kevésbé használták a lovassági szablyát, mint pl. a korabeli európai lovasság vagy különféle gyarmati seregek lovassága. A válasz egyszerű:
"During the war many officers contracted a positive prejudice against the use of the sabre, and in some regiments, mostly Confederate, it was entirely laid aside, all charging being done with the pistol. But, so far as the author's observation goes, he never remembers an instance in which a sabre charge, resolutely pushed, failed to drive the pistols. But the individual fancy of a colonel generally regulated the matter for his regiment. If he were an enthusiastic swordsman he always managed to infuse the same spirit into his men, and such regiments depended on their sabres with just confidence. But very few colonels on either side were swordsmen. The sabre is a weapon that requires constant practice to keep one's hand in, and our cavalry officers, as a class, are entirely deficient in that practice. Hence the contempt for the sabre inculcated by a class of men who simply could not handle it."
Az ottani tisztek nem tudtak vívni, nem tudták megtanítani a közkatonákat a kardhasználatra.
Plusz a hadtáp által leszállított kardok életlenek voltak és olyan kemények, hogy utólag szinte lehetetlen volt megélezni őket, még akkor is, ha volt gőzgéppel működő köszörű.
"És nehogy valaki kiforgassa a szavaimat, maximálisan tisztelem azokat, akik egész életüket valamelyik stílusnak
szentelik, legyen az kendo vagy kenjutsu."
Abszolút.
A gond máshol van.
Egyfelől ott látok gondot, amiről te is írod: "De olyat ne mondjanak, hogy a Hema vagy az európai sportvívás csak ilyen meg olyan, meg csak eddig-addig juthat el." Amiben az is benne van, hogy a megmondóemberek úgy érzik: Mi vagyunk a vívás csúcsa! Mi tudjuk megmondani, hogy mi a vívás és mi nem az; mi a szabadvívás és mi nem stb.
Másfelől pedig egy olyan jelenség is közrejátszik, amiről Bennett írt.
Kendo: Culture of the Sword by Alexander C. Bennett (2015)

Róla pedig garantáltan nem mondható el, hogy nem ismeri a kendót vagy rosszat mond róla.
"A sportkard pont annyira van messze a szablyától, mint a shinai a katanától.
Vagyis nem, a sportkard legalább acélból van. :P"
Viszont egy átlagos HEMA-szablya egyáltalán nincs messze a korabeli tiszti kardtól vagy párbajkardtól.
Sokkal jobban modellezi azt, mint az él, lapok nélküli sinai a katanát, miközben fele akkora tömegű.
Most már a könnyű tőrkardosok vagy a nehéz tőrkard-vívást gyakorlók számára is vannak kiváló
fém vívókardok, melyek kimondottan jól modellezik a régi fegyverek paramétereit.
Vívófegyverek tekintetében a HEMA-sok egyértelműen jobb helyzetben vannak, mint a kendósok.
"...szerintem nincs messzebb a vívás lényegétől (vagyis amit én tekintek a vívás lényegének), mint egy kendós, aki sose használt fémkardot küzdelemben, vagy egy kenjutsu-s, aki sose sparringolt, és alapvetően hiányzik a tempoérzéke."
Teljes mértékben így van.
Ott a konkrét példa:

Plusz sokkal hitelesebb az egész, ha már vívott is minőségi HEMA-vívókkal, leginkább hosszúkardvívókkal.

Napjainktól a mesterek láncolata -- a.k.a. "vérvonal" -- a szablyavívás esetében visszavezethető a XIX. sz. 20-30-as éveiig, tőrvívásnál meg a XVIII. sz. 80-90-es éveiig. Szóval, ebben az időszakban tényleg csak ott fityegett díszként a kard a tisztek oldalán? [1]
