Trident missiles in submarines are now Britain’s only nuclear weapons.

A. BRITAIN’S STRATEGIC TRIDENT.

Britain’s four Trident submarines -- HMS Vanguard, HMS Victorious, HMS Vigilant, and
HMS Vengeance are all operational. British Tridents carry 16 missiles each (not 24 as do US Trident
ships) so the maximum possible number of SLBMs that can be deployed is 64. Currently only one
submarine is on patrol at any given time, and it carries no more than 48 warheads. It also has reduced
readiness in which it takes days to fire a missile, not minutes. The total number of warheads available
for deployment is less than 200.
The British Trident submarines will carry US Trident-2 (D-5) missiles, each capable of
carrying up to eight 100-kiloton warheads...
