NO, WE CAN'T COMPETE WITH REAL: Fergie
Sir Alex Ferguson has responded to the question posed by MagicSponge yesterday following the announcement that Real Madrid had shattered the world transfer record to land Zinedine Zidane. And when asked if Manchester United 'could possibly compete with Real's dream team?' the Old Trafford chief's answer was a resounding 'NO!'.
Sir Alex claims United, despite shelling out £19m on Ruud van Nistelroy with a further £22m set to be invested on Juan Veron, will always lose out to Real Madrid in the race to sign the world's very best players. As predicted by a financial expert on this site yesterday.

The United boss insists that his club is in a different league, literally and financially, to Real and he said: "I think we have come to accept that we can't compete with the buying mentality of clubs like Real.

"Their situation is altogether unusual. They were £160million in debt when their town council go and buy their training ground for £210million and then build them a new one.

"It is the local council's way of saying they can't afford Real to go bankrupt. It doesn't matter how ambitious I am, or the club, you can't cope with that sort of mentality."
