FERGIE RULES OUT OLD TRAFFORD CLEAR-OUT

Sir Alex Ferguson insists that his summer spending spree will not lead to any Old Trafford departures.

The Manchester United boss will take his transfer total to more than Ł42million when Juan Sebastian Veron signs up, but has ruled out the need to balance the books.

United have released Teddy Sheringham this summer, but Ferguson says no-one will be following him out of the door.

Ferguson said: "Selling players to balance the books has never been mentioned.

"When we have sold, we have done so because we have thought it might be time a player took a new challenge, or we had a good offer, or we were worried about him not being happy at being left out of certain games.

"That happened with Henning Berg, and Teddy Sheringham left for much the same reason."

Dwight Yorke has vowed to stay and fight for his place in the wake of Ruud van Nistelrooy's arrival, while midfielders Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt have signed long-term deals and David Beckham is negotiating a new contract.
