Yorke and Latapy quit international scene
Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke and new Rangers signing Russell Latapy have announced their retirement from international football with Trinidad and Tobago. The duo claimed that growing and conflicting demands with their clubs and the national team had become too hectic.

In a joint statement, they said: "We believe that this is in the best interest of all concerned, and want to thank the fans in particular for their support over the years, and wish the national team every success in all their endeavours."

The announcement came shortly after Trinidad coach Rene Simoes said he had dropped Yorke and Latapy from the line-up for Saturday's CONCACAF World Cup qualifier against Jamaica. Simoes said marksman Yorke and midfielder Latapy had failed to appear for practice on Wednesday, forcing him to pull them out of Saturday's match. Both players also failed to turn up for Thursday's practice, and shortly after announced their decision to retire.

Their departure ends a long association with international football, as both men started playing for Trinidad and Tobago as teenagers. Two weeks ago, national team officials announced that Yorke would be left out of the squad for a World Cup qualifier against Honduras for failing to play in a friendly in Panama. He was subsequently reinstated. But after losses to Honduras and the United States, and an insignificant win over Bermuda in a friendly, Yorke went missing while Latapy flew to Britain to clinch his deal with Rangers, reportedly infuriating coach Simoes.
