Úgy tűnik, hogy ez egy erősen elnagyolt állítás.
Még szerencse, hogy olvastam a The history of bogu cikket. [1]
De enélkül is bőven található anyag:
* "Typically, kenjutsu is practiced as paired kata with bokken, not sparring. Some kenjutsu schools do practice
shinaigeiko (the precursor to modern Kendo) on top of kata, but most koryu practitioners do kendo if they feel
a need for sparring."
"Why not mention the Fukuro shinai? Most commonly known in Yagyu Shinkage Ryu as their primary training tool,
they were developed specifically in order to practice full contact movements and sparring. Used in the famous match
between Hidetsuna (who invented the shinai) and Yagyu Munetoshi. (To be precise, Hidetsuna's nephew and Yagyu
Munetoshi)."

* "He then started to devise a system of training that would allow practitioners to strike with full force without any
danger of suffering or causing injury. His third son, Naganuma Shirozaemon Kunisato (1688-1767), completed the
task between 1711-1716."
"This was 1684, but it is obvious that Takahashi Danjozaemon's school had been using bogu for a number of years
already. However, this bogu only consisted of a facemask and gauntlets, but nothing resembling a do was
employed."

* "...he left the Shintō-ryū aiming to create a new sword based combat system. In fact, during those years the Japanese
swordsmanship gradually evolved from the rigid katageiko (form practice performed with either bokutō or with dull-
edged swords called habiki) towards a free practice called shinaigeiko (also known as gekiken). This kind of training
allowed two practitioners to spar without the risk of severe injury thanks to bamboo swords (shinai) and armor
protecting the head (men), the arm (kote), and the torso (dō). With some exceptions, the popular gekiken of the
second half of Edo period was quite similar to modern Kendō."

A legvégén:
