És még egy jó hír:
a Mexikói-öbölben fekvő Belizei Korralzátonyok (Belize Barrier Reefs) világörökségi helyszín lekerült a veszélyben lévő helyszínek listájáról, köszönhetően a kormányzati és civil természetvédelmi szervezetek több éves erőfeszítésének:
"Did you know that over 11 million people living in and near World Heritage sites depend on them for food, water, medicine, and jobs? Protection and preservation are vital and we are proud to announce that Belize is now OFF the UNESCO in danger list!
The site was added to the In Danger list almost a decade ago due to the threat of irreversible damage from coastal construction and oil exploration.
When seismic testing for oil was permitted just 10km from the site, public outcry from Belizeans followed. Local efforts were supported by a coalition that included WWF, Oceana, and the Belize Tourism Industry Association. Over the last 18 months, Belize’s government has put in place protections to secure the Belize Barrier Reef from immediate threats.
This achievement for our shared home wouldn’t have been possible without your continuous support and the collective effort of the Belize coalition. World Heritage sites belong to all of us, and we must continue to play our part to protect them."
