The other railroads were "green" with envy when the NYCS painted three E-8's "Century Green". The name "Century Green" was coined when the color was accepted by the railroad in 1960-61. There were three E-units painted Century Green at Collinwood along with three units in black and three in dark grey. The green locomotives were EMD E8 A-units #4053 and #4083, built in 1952 and 1953 respectively. The green B-unit was EMD E7 #4107 built in 1947. None of the units had any stripping, just the cigar band oval on the nose. (Photo NYCSHS Collection)
