Nerina legelső videoklipjét, a Patience-t éveig nem láttam a youtube-on, csak egy rövidebb, kétperces videó volt ott, aztán mostanában újra látom, két példányban is, és mindkettőt régen töltötte fel valaki... Talán eddig, évekig privátra volt állítva, és most újra felbátorodtak a feltöltői? :)
Viszont az Idaho (Abby Road Studio) videó, ami sokáig fent volt a youtube-on, már évek óta nyomtalanul tűnt el onnan, nyilván a tévétársaság vetette le. És sajnos az indavideo-ról is törölték akkoriban, vagy szorgalomból, vagy megkeresték őket is...?
Mondjuk nekem itthon a gépen megvan ez a videó kicsit hosszabb változatban, kicsit jobb minőségben, az a rész is, amikor elmeséli röviden a dal születésének a történetét, hogy hogyan ejtette az a lemeztársaság (Polydor), hogyan maradt pénz nélkül, kiköltekezve, egy csomó drága ruhával, amit a videoklipek forgatásáról elhozhatott, és így hogyan lett a legmenőbb ruhatárral rendelkező babysitter Londonban. :) Aztán hogyan komponálta meg az Idaho-t, és akkor hogyan jött rá, hogy mégsem irodalomtanár lesz egy iskolában, mert van helye ezen a pályán. És létrehozta a saját kis kiadóját, és felvette és kiadta a Fires albumot.
(Aztán a negyedik albumával visszakeveredett az őt kirugó kiadóhoz, pontosabban annak a szoros testvér-márkájához, a Geffenhez... Az az album azért annyira nem is lett jó, az mintha csak azért lett volna összerakva, mert volt rá szerződése, és kellett... Vannak rajta jó számok, persze, de úgy az egész nekem nem állt össze.
Az ötödik-hatodik album ismét sikerültnek tűnt, de a legutolsó nekem újra kicsit olyan... nekm az kedvencem tőle.)
Arról az albumról én leginkább a Real Late Starter-t és a Human-t kedveltem, meg főleg a hozzá kapcsolódó bonus track-ként és free download-ként kiadott számokat (egy részük nyilván megjelent már korábbi EP-ken, de a nagyközönség számára ezek akkor láthatatlanok maradtak): az English, a God of Small Things, a Long Tall Grass of Summer, meg a vicces Blue Christmas... (Na jó, az I Don't Want To Go Out videó is elég viccos.)
Amikor megjelent a The Graduate c. album, egyes dalok hangszerelésétől falra tudtam volna mászni... De azóta úgy gondolom, oka és jelentése van, hogy ennek az albumnak ilyen hangulata és stílusa lett. Ez is hozzátartozik az alkotói szabadsághoz. Így ha nagyon szeretni nem fogom talán sose, igenis helye van Nerina albumai között. Az I Don't Want To Go Out-ot pedig azóta egész megkedveltem. :)
Azt remélem, az I Don't TKnow What I'm Doing-gal is lesz a helyzet.
Tehát júniusban jön a hetedik album, de ez a stílus nem az én kedvencem, pár olyan hatás érte Nerinát tini korában, ami ide vezetett... :) Például a Steely Dan volt az egyik kedvenc együttese.
Ezek az új, zeneileg könnyed nyári stílusú, szövegileg pedig optimista, motiváló szándékú dalok számomra olyan nyári limonádé hatású dolgok, de ezekkel Nerina mintha magának akarná szugerálni, hogy ha nagyon akarjuk, tökjó lesz minden, hurrá, gyerünk, legyünk lelkesek, és optimisták.
Hát nem tudom... A "The Sound and the Fury" szerintem több nagyságrenddel érdekesebb album volt, és a Stay Lucky-hoz képest is gyengébb, vagy legalább nekem nem annyira jön be ez a stílus... Már amennyit ebből az újból hallottam.
Megpróbáltam lefordítani a There's A Drum-ot. De a "dobos" versszakok ("there is a drum...") ritmusos dobolása (ahogy Nerina megírta és előadja) nem teljesen jött ki. :)
Azt tudjuk, hogy Nerina YouTube csatornáján miért lett több videó privátra állítva? Gondolok itt az I Digress Sessions-re, a videónaplóra, és a többire...
Nem nagyon jár külföldre, nagy ritkán a németekhez. Még haza, Jersey-re is egy évben, ha egyszer megy el.
Most október közepén indul turnéra, és december közepén fejezi be, de persze csak a briteknél koncertezik.
De most őszintén, hányan lennének egy budapesti koncertjén? És nála a koncertek közben megy a stand-up comedy is, vagyis ha a közönség nem perfect angol, már bukta a műsora felét. :)
Nerina Pallot pályájának jelenlegi kanyarulatában éppen most aláírt a Sarm Music Group-hoz tartozó Perfect Songs-hoz.
Ami nem tudom, mit jelent, de az biztos, hogy Nerina eddigi kalandos történetének alapján egy-két évnél tovább ez sem tart majd. És akkor jöhet az újabb kaland... :)

A lovely little phone chat with Nerina Pallot meant she could tell me all about her 4th EP of the year so far; one per month is her mammoth mission for 2014 and I have no doubt she will accomplish this. Also, she’s confessed to me she had a lie-in so we know she’s getting her rest!
Nerina, in the documentary, 2014, The Year of EPs, you mention that you cut the Christmas EP in just one day, so was it literally that day that you came up with this EP per month idea?
Yeah, pretty much! I remember it was about October or November when we cut the Christmas EP and we were sat down having a quick dinner break and someone asked me ‘Have you enjoyed this process?’ And I responded with ‘Yeah, I want to do an EP every month.’ I got the idea in my head so then I decided that yes, that was what I was going to do.
It’s an admirable task to take on! How you finding it so far? 3 EPs already done, just 9 to go! Has it been as you expected?
Yeah, I thought I would have flagged by now but there are actually loads of different musical things I want to try. I actually really love this new film I saw called 20 feet from Stardom and that was inspiring me in terms of new different music I want to explore, so hopefully, if I can keep being inspired throughout the year then I should pull it off!
So it’s happening quite naturally for you at the moment?
Yeah because the actual act of song writing and recording is quite straightforward. What I need to make sure is that I have enough inspiration to make my material good.
Do you have any specific ideas about subjects you want to write about or, as you’ve mentioned, you’re letting inspiration guide you?
Yeah, I never try and force it. There will always be things subconsciously that you want to write about and as long as your open to it they will pop out. Also, if I become too focused on trying to address specific things then it becomes more of a job than a joy so I’d rather just let it happen.
