Tisztelt Kollegak!
Tobben erdeklodtek arrol, hogy vegul mit is kozolt, illetve mit vagtak ki a
New York Times szerkesztoi a levelembol. Tajekoztatasul ide mellekelem
mindket valtozatot. Egyben megjegyzem azt is, hogy az idezett (es kivagott)
mondat hiteles volt es azt is, hogy Orkeny Istvan tollabol valo es hallhato a
"Forradalom Hangja" c. hanglemezen/szalagon. Megjegyzem azt is, hogy a mondat

ujsag alapelve, hogy idezojelben csak olyan szoveget kozolhetnek, melynek
hitelesseget bizonyitotta a szerzo es en erre egy oran belul keptelen voltam
a bizonyitekokat beszerezni. Egyben szepen megkoszonom azt a kozel szaz

To the Editor,
Tina Rosenberg is correct (Editorial Observer, 8/11/2000), we do want to
know which of our "friends" spied on us during the Communist era. We feel
this need just as deeply, as did the victims of the GESTAPO. In 1956, during
those few days of freedom brought by the Hungarian Revolution, the very first
sentence of the free Hungarian Radio was: "We lied to you at night, we lied
during the day, we lied on all wavelengths." Coming clean is the essential
first step on the road towards an open and democratic society. But that step
is not coming easily this time!
This year I have received 104 copies of informer reports which were sent to
the Communist secret police of Hungary in the 1980s reporting on my
"activities in the USA". But the names of the informers been removed. As of
today, I still do not know which of my friends worked as informers. Hungary
is still protecting the identity of the former secret police agents and
several members of the government are still former Party members. Just
imagine what kind of Germany would we have today if after WW2 the identity of
the GESTAPO spies was protected and Nazi Party members could sit in the
democratic government?

INFORMERS IN THE EAST

Re "A Polish Election Vexed by Communist Spies" (Editorial Observer, Aug. 11):
