"I also surprised myself after the Djokovic match in Rome," said Del Potro. "I played great tennis for almost three hours, very high intensity, with the number one of the world, which is a very good thing looking towards the future."
"But I know how my present [level] is at the moment. I know how far [away] my best level is. I have high expectations in the future, but not now because I want to be calm. I want to be safe, as well. This is part of my rehabilitation to get better and get to 100 per cent soon... I will try to play as best as I can, but I am going slowly."
"I am getting back to my old backhand and that helps me for my whole game," said Del Potro. "I played a lot of backhands down the line [in Rome], making a lot of winners and it is a very good thing for my game. Now I can mix it up with my slices [and] different shots that I improved a few years ago. If my wrist still helps me, I will be playing harder backhands, as well as my forehands, and I will have a complete game for this year."
"I know [Felix's] potential. He has a big future but also he is playing great at the moment," said Del Potro. "He plays a strong game. He has all the shots on court and he is getting better and better every tournament. It will be fun to watch him because I love his game, but we both have to win a couple of matches before. Looking to myself, I have a very tough first round with Jarry and I am just thinking about him and that is it."
"The doctor gave me big confidence to play this tournament. I have been practising hard, getting ready to play another Grand Slam at this time of my rehab," said Del Potro. "It would be great if I finish this tournament healthy, playing good tennis, good level, because I am looking forward to being 100 per cent in the grass season and also in the summer of the United States. [Those] will be my biggest goals for this year."
In Rome, his third seasonal tournament, he reached the quarter-finals, where he lost to the world no. 1 Novak Djokovic at the end of an epic match, which lasted three sets. Del Potro seemed to be in good athletic and psychic shape in the seven days in Roma.
He played good tennis, beating David Goffin, and rising youngsters like Casper Ruud. Considering that the playing surface is not ideal for del Potro, especially if the clay is heavy and slow, his performances in Rome can be seen as a reason for serenity for the physical stability of the Argentinian.
At the French Open, he will be one of the adversaries that nobody will want to meet on his way. Surely he can be a very demanding outsider for anyone. Obviously, his chances of arriving at least in the semi-finals are few; holding up matches played at the best-of-five sets can still be an ambitious goal for him, but it will also be an important physical test in order to see if his recovery is complete.
And a placement at least until the fourth round or up to the quarter-finals must not only be a utopia. His real season anyway will start on grass, and then continue first on the North American hard-courts and through the autumn on indoor hard-courts.
Moments of the season during which he will have chances to obtain important satisfactions. And rise again after the patella problems.
Zverev ellen néztem a DSZ-ben, hogy mit szerencsétlenkedtek össze! Voltak azért szép pontok is, de ha így fog játszani, akkor Delpinek meglehet a meccs. Hát nem bánnám, mert nagyon ellenszenves a fickó! Volt már olyan, hogy Delpit ötödikként az első kiemelthez sorsolták. Természetesen Djoko volt az!😀 Igen, minél több pontot kell szerezni, addig is amíg újra toppon lesz...
Én is így látom, Zsárri nem épp a legideálisabb kezdésnek:/ Észnél kell lennie. McDonaldnak jó lenne visszavágni, gondolom azt te is élveznéd:) Egy QF-nek tudnék örülni!
Amúgy meglepődtem hogy Thiemhez sorsolták, azt hittem a 8. kiemelt fixen a Top2 egyikét kapja, és fordítva a top2 nem kap 5-6. kiemeltet. Ehhez képest ugye Thiem-Delpo, Djokovic-Zverev.
Ha csak nem történik csoda sajnos a torna után a TOP10ből is kikerül kedvencünk, de a zuhanás elkerülése érdekében hozni kell a pontokat:)
Végül a madridi csalódás után, Rómában elég jól játszott, de azért nem vonnék le nagy következtetéseket. Még annyira keveset játszott, lehet hullámzó a teljesítménye.
A holnapi, azaz már mai sorsolással kapcsolatban, felkészültem a lehető legrosszabbra...
Örülök hogy megy tovább az élet:) Bár a vereség fájó volt, a játék miatt mindenképp bizakodhatunk, tavaly az egész salakszezonban nem volt ilyen jó tornája, még a RG elődöntőt sem a jó játék miatt hozta össze. Várom a kiábrándító sorsolást :D
