Nem tesz jót a globális felmelegedés a medvéknek

A sarki medvék kicsinyei Alaszkában jóval kevesebb életeséllyel indulnak, mint húsz évvel ezelőtt, ami feltehetően a globális felmelegedés miatti jégolvadás következménye - figyelmeztettek amerikai kutatók.

Az utóbbi öt évben a medvebocsoknak csupán a 43 százaléka érte meg az egyéves kort a Beaufort-tenger alaszkai partjainál, ezzel szemben az 1980-as évek végén és az 1990-es évek elején ez az arány még 65 százalékos volt - írják a kutatók.

"Nem állíthatjuk teljes biztonsággal, hogy a bocsok életben maradási esélye a jégolvadás miatt csökken, de semmilyen más okot nem találtunk, amivel megmagyarázható volna az aggasztó jelenség" - mondta Steven Amstrup kutatásvezető, az USGS Alaska Science Center munkatársa. A kutatók azt is megfigyelték, hogy az 1990 után befogott felnőtt sarki medvék kisebbek, mint az 1990 előtt befogott társaik.
