Platinum-selling, Brit-nominated singer-songwriter Nerina Pallot returns in style with her new album Year of the Wolf. The album released on 30 May is her first release on Geffen Records
Produced entirely with Britpop guitar legend Bernard Butler, Year Of The Wolf is, simply put, the accumulation of Nerina’s talents honed over the years. It runs the gamut of Nerina’s love of euphoric pop songs with big heart-bursting choruses like lead single Put Your Hands Up - ramped up to even more joyous heights by Butler’s stomping widescreen production - to the meditative folk-soul of Grace, bridging the gap between pop and art with effortless grace.
Much of Year Of The Wolf was written and recorded during Nerina’s pregnancy last year, and ranges from the heady va-va-voom of Turn Me On Again (“People over-intellectualise pop sometimes – good pop should be three and half minutes about sex really,” she succinctly states) to the sweeping, classical rhapsody of History Boys, a personal reaction to the news footage of bereaved mothers aired during the Chilcot Inquiry (“the most emotional, and political, song I’ve ever written”).
Attentive students of the airwaves will know Nerina from her on-off flirtations with the charts over the past decade or so (most notably her 2006 radio staple Everybody’s Gone To War and the Ivor Novello-nominated Sophia) or more recently her songwriting credits for the likes of Kylie Minogue and Diana Vickers. But that’s only part of the story – as her new album Year Of The Wolf resolutely displays.
Nerina will be performing a one-off show at the Bloomsbury Theatre, London on 20 April, premiering new songs from the album.

Tehát, bár Nerina Londonban született, azonban Jersey szigetén nevelkedett (kivéve azt az időszakot, amikor édesanyja családjánál Indiában, Allahabadban élt), és annak ellenére, hogy már évek óta Londonban él, ma is Jersey-t (a francia partok közelében elterülő brit koronagyarmatot) tekinti eredeti otthonának, mondhatni szülőföldjének.

Úgy néz ki, hogy Nerina a vidéki koncertet, ami most következett volna, elhalasztja januárra a rendkívüli időjárás miatt (sem az ő, sem a nézők utzása nem lenne biztonságos), és ezért a koncert helyett most vasárnap este nyolckor rendkívüli online adást tervez.
December 13-án lesz a következő adás. Néztem a most először beüzemelt twitcam közvetítést is, de az valahogy túl halk volt. Viszont a hangot levéve (ami kicsit késett a ustream hanghoz képest) azért érdekes volt egy másik szögből (szemből) is látni Nerinát. :)
Ma (hétfőn) este 22-kor Nerina újra jelentkezik az online műsorral. Nyilván még nem teljesen gyógyult meg, de muszáj neki jól lenni, mert december 4-én már rendes koncertje lesz.
(Nerina Pallot és férje, Andy Chatterley vidám kis dala eredetileg Nerina lemezére készült, de Kylie elkunyerálta Nerinától, így került fel Kylie Minogue Aphrodite albumára a címadó Aphrodite számmal együtt, amely szintén Nerina és Andy szerzeménye, és a producerek is ők voltak ennél a két dalnál. A 2010. december 13-án megjelenő Better Than Today Kylie harmadik single-je az albumról.)
Kiderült, hogy Nerinának belsőfül gyulladása van, ami nem egy jó hír. Mert nem csak az online webcast maradhat el ismát, hanem akár a régen megszervezett decemberi nagy koncertje is, ráadásul ez a betegség agyhártyagyulladássá is fokozódhat, illetve a hallás teljes elvesztésével is járhat súlyos esetben. Remélhetőleg a XXI. században, Londonban ilyen már nem történik meg senkivel.
