34,000 Fans in the Amsterdam ArenA were witness to a dreadful match tonight - one in which Ajax lost two points in the race for the Dutch Championship. And man, what an irritating match it was! At the end of the 90 minutes a bloodless 0-0 was on the scoreboard.
Coach Johan Neeskens of the Nijmegen team was "very satisfied with the result." That, we can understand. But the negative football that NEC showed is a disgrace for the Dutch competition. That Ajax had no answer to these tactics is something the team can blame itself for. The forwards, especially, heard harsh words from Co Adriaanse - and quite rightly so. Both wingers, Andy van der Meyde on the right and Kevin Bobson on the left, made a lot of mistakes. All of their crosses were too hard, and both players lost many balls. As for Shota Arveladze....well..yeah...Shota Arveladze. He had a few good moments, but in 90 minutes there was just too little to be happy about.
In the entire 90 minutes of football (!) there were only two chances that looked like real scoring possiblities. They came from Jesper Gronkjaer (who replaced Bobson and played reasonably well), and from Andy van der Meyde. Gronkjear got off a good shot from an impossible angle, but hit the crossbar, and Andy van der Meyde's shot was cleared off the line by a NEC defender.
This Saturday FC Groningen comes to Ajax. For now we can all hope that assistent coach Peter Boeve is right when he says that "good training will help the players get on track." In the meantime PSV will be most happy with the Ajax' result tonight. As for the fans, they are already having a hard time believing in the fortunes of their beloved team.

A "VASAS-blokkra" nem reagalok, mert ez AJAX-topic. Amugy en se kivanom, hogy az AJAX magyarokkal keruljon ossze, mert azt akarom, hogy a magyarok es az AJAX is minel tovabb jussanak. Ha megis osszekerulnek, a magyar csapatnak fogok szurkolni, meg akkor is, ha nem a kedvenc magyar csapatomrol lesz szo. Nem mondom, hogy az AJAX ellen fogok szurkolni, de - verzo szivvel ugyan - a honi csapat tovabbjutasanak fogok drukkolni.
De egyelore csak Gent-AJAX lesz, ahol felszabadultan orulok majd fergeteges idegenbeli gyozelmunknek a 12-en 6(?)-kor kezdodo meccs utan.

Hmm,magyar csapat vagy nem,de a vasasnak sosem szurkolnék,akárkivel is játszana,ez az eftécére is igaz,a többi csapatnak(ÚFC,MTK,DVSC,Lombard,Dunaferr)azért mindig szurkolok,de ha az Ajax ellen játszanának akkor a Lombard és a Dunaferr sem érdekelne.A másik 3-nál nemtudom mi lenne,de az biztos ha lenne VIDI-Ajax meccs akkor a VIDI-nek szurkolnék!
Nekem csapattól függene, pl. a Vasas ellen szurkolnék, meg a Dunaferr ellen is, ha az Ajax lenne az ellenfél. Az MTK az más tészta. A Vasas ellen pedig duplán is szurkolnék, akárkinek. Főként a Vasas-MTK meccs utáni "dolgok" miatt.
Na mindegy...

ADAM17:a Gent ellen tényleg majdnem biztos a továbjutás,de én jobban örültem volna ha egy magyar vagy legalább szlovén,horvát,román,szlovák,osztrák stb.csapatot sorsoltak volna ki,mert akkor reális esély lett volna rá hogy kijussunk a meccsre.Nembaj talán ha megverjük a Gentet akkor a második sorsolásnál nagyobb szerencsénk lesz.
Just as we feared, after the big win over Fortuna Sittard, Ajax lost the match against Sparta this afternoon. Ajax was the better team for a huge part of the first half, but made a mess of the great number of chances it got - especially Shota Arveladze, who spoiled a whole bunch of them. The Georgian striker has been lacking confidence for about two seasons now. He creates plenty of chances, but scores little to none. In the end, Ajax went down 3-0.
Starting with the first whistle of referee Luinge, the match looked like a festival of errors. Many wrong passes were sent away, although we must say that Ajax played the better football in the opening phase. Unfortunately, playing better football didn't result in any goals. It was Sparta who almost scored the first goal during the first half, as the result of a free kick. Fortunately, the ball went past Fred Grim's goal.
The tide turned in favor of Sparta in the second half. Langerak, Elkhatabbi and Marbus scored Sparta's goals, and made Ajax look ridiculous while they were doing it. Brutil Hosé, who came into the match for Arveladze during the break, wasn't able to do anything at all to change it. Neither could the other two substitutes: Wamberto and Van der Gun, who replaced the failing Bobson and Van der Meijde. Sparta kept getting stronger and stronger as the half went on, and Ajax was powerless to do anything about it, as Sparta completely dicated the second half. Ajax never even came close to Sparta goalie Kooiman. Sad to say, Ajax hasn't won an away match since November 1999. Today's outing did nothing to end that ridiculous streak.
The result was a complete non-fulfilment of Ajax' hopes for this year. Luckily, it's early in the season so that everything can still be made right. But this defeat puts an inconvenient crimp in Adriaanse's plans of building a new Ajax. Quite a few players are still feeling the misery of last season, and now they have been dealt a new blow because of the match today.
To make matters worse, next week the Dutch Number One, NEC, comes to Amsterdam. The team from Nijmegen plays very good football, and scores easily. Maybe it is time to get that defender that Ajax needs and to make Bogdan Lobont the first keeper. Fred Grim is incapable of coaching his defense, so the 'advantage' that Adriaanse supposedly got by making Grim the first goalie, is not present. Also, hopefully, Arveladze can be put out of his misery by a return of Nikos Machlas. What a bummer! "
