donderdag 31 augustus 2006 20:49 Angelos Charisteas joins Feyenoord
31 aug 2006 Ajax have reached agreement with Feyenoord about a transfer to Feyenoord. The Greek striker had a contract with Ajax to 30 June 2008. The forward, who made his debut for Ajax on 23 January 2005 in the away match against FC Utrecht (0-2), played 45 official matches for the club from Amsterdam, scoring 15 times. Before he came to Ajax, Charisteas played for FC Aris Thessaloniki, Athinaikos FC and Werder Bremen.
Rotterdam, augusztus 31., 10.30 A Lyon elsőre elutasította a hollandok ajánlatát.
A Feyenoord szeretné leigazolni a norvég John Carew-t. - John most nem akar a Feyenoordba igazolni, egyelőre szívesebben maradna Lyonban.
Igor Korneyev is to leave Feyenoord after being appointed to Guus Hiddink’s new technical staff for the Russian national team, where Hiddink and his contingent are set to take over after the World Cup. The current youth coach will be Hiddink’s assistant. The former Feyenoord player may also take on duties as the head coach of the country’s under 21 squad. Korneyev has put his signature to a two-year contract, with a further two-year extension option.
Korneyev had had an ongoing contract with Feyenoord, but the club gave the Russian the green light to accept Hiddink’s offer. ‘I am very happy with that,’ said Korneyev. ‘While I was very much at home in Feyenoord’s youth development setup, I naturally want to develop as a coach. That’s why I didn’t really have to give it much thought when Guus Hiddink approached me. This is an exceptional chance for me to work with one of the world’s best coaches.’
Korneyev will keep his home in Holland, but the new challenge means he will be leaving the country after over a decade. The Russian arrived in Holland via CSKA Moskou, Espanyol and FC Barcelona. His first Dutch club was SC Heerenveen, but he made the switch to Feyenoord in 1997. He played in Rotterdam for five years, racking up 79 games, in which he netted 20 goals. Korneyev then went on the play for NAC, before returning to Feyenoord as a youth coach.
Joonas Kolkka has agreed a one-season deal with Feyenoord for the coming season. The Finnish striker – the third acquisition for the Rotterdammers in three days following Stein Huysegems and Theo Lucius – is set to sign a contract with the club that includes an optional one-year extension. Kolkka wore the colours of ADO Den Haag in the season just ended. ‘Joonas will give us more strength in depth,’ says Erwin Koeman.
‘I am really happy that I’m going to play for Feyenoord,’ said Kolkka, who is currently on holiday. Everyone knows this club and its fantastic history. I didn’t think anything like this could happen at the start of the season. I’m now 31 and if you get the chance at a super top club like Feyenoord you have to take it immediately of course.’
The 31-year-old Kolkka has already had quite a career since leaving Finland’s MyPa. Willem II, PSV, Panathinaikos, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Crystal Palace have all hired the player, who has also been capped 68 times by his country. That experience is one of the reasons Erwin Koeman is happy to add him to his roster. ‘Joonas is experienced and above all a real enthusiast. I like to have players like that. With him we will have more strength in depth. He can play on the left or the right in our system.’
‘I feel completely fit and ready to play at the top again,’ said Kolkka. ‘Last season went really well at ADO. It certainly went well at De Kuip.’ Kolkka bagged both goals against Feyenoord in his side’s two-nil win at the end of March of course. ‘I hope to do that for Feyenoord now. In a stadium like this you just cannot play badly. I think I bring a good deal of experience and what’s more I can be used in several positions. I can play on the right or left wing and on the left of midfield for instance.’
‘Joonas knows the role he’ll start with,’ added Koeman. ‘But you never know how things will pan out. I think we’ll be using him a lot and that he can be very valuable for Feyenoord.’
Dutch international Theo Lucius (29) has signed a three-year contract with Feyenoord that also includes an option on a one-year extension. After six years in Eindhoven, Lucius felt the time was right for a new challenge and he found it at De Kuip, where he will hook up with Erwin Koeman once again. ‘This was the only club in the Netherlands I wanted to play for after my time at PSV,’ admitted Lucius. ‘And that Erwin Koeman is coach here was the decisive factor for me.’
Lucius initially looked likely to try his luck abroad after a half-dozen years in Eindhoven, but the versatile Dutchman was ultimately coaxed into a switch to Rotterdam. ‘I had a very good feeling after the talks I had. Feyenoord really wanted to have me and I was happy to know that. And that Erwin Koeman is coach here was the decisive factor for me. I obviously worked with him for a couple of years and I enjoyed it.’
‘I know Theo well and I think he is a real Feyenoord player,’ said Erwin Koeman. ‘Given his game and his character he is a great match with the club. Theo can play in several positions and he’s a lad who will never let the team down. I knew that he was a bit unsettled at PSV, where he didn’t have a settled place in the team and was really looking for something new. He strengthens our first team, and increases competition in midfield.’
Theo Lucius has played 243 professional games, winning just about everything there is to win in his time at PSV on more than one occasion. But despite that, he is looking forward to the challenge in Rotterdam. ‘It is clear to me that this club has won too little in recent years if you look at the enormous fan base. I want to win prizes here. We are active on three fronts next season, so we have enough chances.’
The defender cum midfielder didn’t really want to discuss his future role at De Kuip when he was presented Thursday. ‘For the coach it’s an advantage that he can use my in different positions, but I’ll leave it to him where exactly that is.’ Koeman was more specific. ‘All things being equal Theo is arriving as a midfielder, he can play well there. To be honest he can play almost anywhere. At PSV he even played left-back against Leeds United and he did that well. But we’ll have sufficient time in preseason to try things out.’
Wherever he ends up, the new arrival certainly proved he has the lungs to cope during his medical. ‘You normally only see that in cyclists,’ admitted club doctor Robbart van Linschoten.
Stein Huysegems signed a four-year contract with Feyenoord Tuesday afternoon. The Rotterdammers agreed a deal with the player’s club AZ at the weekend and the 23-year-old striker agreed personal terms today. ‘We are very happy with Stein’s arrival,’ confirmed Chris Woerts. ‘He is undoubtedly a reinforcement.’ The fast, technically handy Huysegems was brought through by Belgium club Lierse SK, before moving to Alkmaar in the summer of 2003, where he played a total 94 Eredivisie matches for the Dutch club, netting 19 goals.
Stein Huysegems is delighted with his new club. ‘It’s dream for every footballer to able to play for Feyenoord. It went very fast and I’m very happy things have been settled. When Feyenoord show an interest you go. This club is a size bigger than AZ. I think it’ll be great to be able to play at De Kuip.’
‘Huysegems has been brought in for a clear reason,’ admitted Chris Woerts. ‘It was the express wish of the technical staff that he would succeed Salomon Kalou on the left.'
The recently married Belgian knows what’s expected of him in Rotterdam. ‘I’ve been brought in as an outside-left. I think because of my speed, powerful shot and because I am skilful. I’m focused on the goal and I hope to get my goals. Obviously, as much as possible I’ll try to set up Dirk Kuyt, who I hope will remain at Feyenoord for longer. I think they could be great years.’
