A Newcastle jobbhátvédje, Stephen Carr azután döntött úgy, hogy nem akar többé az ír válogatottban szerepelni, hogy Brian Kerr legényei nem tudták kvalifikálni magukat a jövő évi világbajnokságra.
Carr azzal indokolta elhatározását, hogy őt nagyon megviselte csapata bukása, ráadásul neki sérülés miatt a 2002-es vb-t is ki kellett hagynia.
A csupaszív védő 39 alkalommal szerepelt a válogatottban.

Soccer bosses have played down security fears over Wednesday's Champions League match between Glentoran and Shelbourne, which takes place during one of the most politically sensitive weeks in the Northern Irish calendar.

Northern Ireland's Glentoran face Shelbourne, from the Republic of Ireland, at home on Wednesday -- a day after annual celebrations in which pro-British Protestants mark historic victories over Catholics in parades that often spark violence.
"I'm quite satisfied that football will be the winner here and it will be a footballing occasion," Shelbourne chief executive Ollie Byrne told Reuters.
"There is a good relationship between the two clubs and there has been a gathering and communication between the supporters."
Northern Ireland's summer marching season reaches its climax on July 12, the date of the 1690 defeat of Catholic King James by Protestant Prince William of Orange at the Battle of the Boyne.
Last year, hundreds of Protestants and Catholics pelted each other with stones and bottles during one of the parades.
Despite the potential for flare-ups on Wednesday, Glentoran club secretary Alex McWilliams was confident the action would be on the pitch not off it.
"We are very happy that plans are in place to see that things go smoothly," he said.
Both teams know they are playing for more than a chance for European glory, with McWilliams describing the tie as establishing the island's champions.
Shelbourne, currently second in the Eircom League midway through the season, are favourites going into the match against a Glentoran side yet to begin the defence of their Irish League title.
However, Byrne said form was not always a guarantee in North-South matches. "It's not like an ordinary European match...it's going to be two clubs playing with a lot of pride and passion," he said. "We will have a difficult two legs."
