Campbell gave Porsche its first overall pole in WEC competition since Neel Jani and Nick Tandy took the No. 1 Porsche 919 Hybrid to top qualifying honors at Bahrain 2017 back in the LMP1 hybrid era.
It marked a continuation of success for the 29-year-old Australian, who kicked off the year with victory in the Rolex 24 at Daytona before coming out victorious in last month’s Repco Bathurst 12 Hour, also in a Porsche. Porsche Penske Motorsport managing director Jonathan Diuguid said: “I was joking with him walking over here, I said, ‘Matt, are you gonna let anyone else this year?’ and he said, ‘I’m working hard not to!’”
The starting line in Qatar is both the end of a long journey and the beginning of a new adventure for our first hybrid racing car, the Lamborghini SC63. Our journey to bring it to life started two years ago. It was like a dream that weaved through different stages, meetings, ideas, people working together. And it finally becomes reality, with a top level LMDh Lamborghini for endurance racing, set for the most iconic challenges, such as Le Mans 24 Hours and Sebring 12 Hours. We are ready to make our historic debut in the most competitive endurance championships in the world: FIA WEC and IMSA Sportscar. Let’s start in Qatar. Brace yourselves.
The 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship’s full-season entry list features 37 cars across its two-class structure, with 19 cars in the headlining Hypercar class, a record for the series. It promises to be the most competitive season of racing yet. But it’s not just the depth, it’s the sheer variety that’s special, too.
Nine factory programs from Alpine, BMW, Cadillac, Ferrari, Isotta Fraschini, Lamborghini, Peugeot, Porsche and Toyota are all set to do battle in the Hypercar class. And the grid is further bolstered by four privateer entries.
Add to that list the nine marques represented in the new-for-2024 LMGT3 class, and you have 14 different manufacturers on show, with Aston Martin, Corvette, Ford, Lexus and McLaren adding to the makes represented across both categories. That’s a record, too – no FIA World Championship has ever played host to as many OEMs before.
WEC YT csatornára kerülnek fel az anyagok gazdagon, Toyoták egyelőre bűn lassúak, első meglepi. :) A fekete festésük ellenben vagány.

The Ford SuperVan 4.2 has become the new unofficial lap record holder at Mount Panorama Circuit for closed cars, breaking Jules Gounon’s lap set just one week ago in an unrestricted Mercedes-AMG GT3.
Romain Dumas stormed to a best lap of 1:56.3247 in the 2000-horsepower all-electric prototype vehicle on Sunday during a demonstration run at the Thrifty Bathurst 500 Supercars season opener.
"....admitted that he felt like he was just “driving in a train and waiting” for the closing stages of the race, which featured 11 safety car periods.
The changes resulted in teams not being able to employ fuel saving tactics or make different strategy calls in pit lane.
“I have to say from a driver’s perspective, being brutally honest, I think the rules for this year have been pretty disappointing in terms of the entertainment factor,” the South African said.
Habul (2. Mercedes)
“It sort of leveled the field out,” he said. “It didn’t matter what sort of car you had or if you were normally a 20th place car, they took all the advantage away from everybody to keep everybody at the end on the last lap to give it a show."
Campbell (1. Porsche)
“I sort of missed the more strategy input from the team and also that requires more effort from the driver as well with fuel management and everything like that,” he said.
“I really like that style of racing. I think that’s proper endurance [racing]
Januárban nyert Daytona 24 órást, most meg Bathurst 12 órást.
