U.S. Afghan fighter sues news agency

NEW YORK—A U.S. citizen once convicted of running a private jail in
Afghanistan for terror suspects and torturing them has sued The
Associated Press, alleging it engaged in defamation, libel and slander.

Jack Idema, a former Green Beret from Fayetteville, N.C., filed the
lawsuit Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan seeking at least
$110,000 and other unspecified damages.

Idema, who listed a current address in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., was
convicted of charges including torture and operating a private jail
and was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Afghanistan in September
2004. He was later pardoned by Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai and
left that country in June.

In his lawsuit, Idema accused the AP of ignoring truths about his
work in Afghanistan to generate a "hot salient and torrid story of
abuse in Afghanistan" to compete with a CBS story about allegations
of torture at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

He also accused the AP of reneging on promises not to publish
photographs and videotaped images provided by Idema or his lawyers
unless it obtained publishing rights from his licensing agent,
Polaris Images.

Dave Tomlin, AP associate general counsel, said: "The whole lawsuit
is nonsense. The claims that reflect on the integrity and
professionalism of AP staff are especially outrageous."

According to the lawsuit, Idema had fought with the Northern Alliance
against the Taliban after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and
remained with the forces until June 2002, when he returned to the
United States. He was not a member of the U.S. military at that time.

In April 2004, Idema was back in Afghanistan, working closely with
U.S. and Afghan military and intelligence activities, the lawsuit
said. He was arrested a few months later.

The U.S. military has said it accepted a prisoner from Idema before
realizing he was an impostor and releasing the prisoner without
charge. NATO peacekeepers have said they were duped into helping
Idema on three raids.

. A veteran of operations in Somalia, Gen Ward brings broad geographic
expertise to the job
A US Army general has been selected to head a new US regional command: US
Africa Command (AFRICOM).
US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates announced on 10 July the selection of
US Army General William Ward, currently the deputy commander of US European
Command, to lead the new command, which is supposed to lend new focus to US
military activity on the continent.
The nomination of Gen Ward - which is subject to congressional approval -
accelerates the formation of the new command. AFRICOM stands up as a
'sub-unified' command under US European Command at the end of September
2007. It is expected to reach full operational capability on 1 October 2008.

In recent months, US officials have sketched a general outline of AFRICOM,
but have revealed few details about the shape, structure or location of the
new command. AFRICOM will maintain its headquarters in Africa, although the
Department of Defense (DoD) has yet to fix a locale. Distinct from other US
regional commands, AFRICOM is supposed to have a strong non-military
component; the commander's deputy will be a serving US diplomat and a
significant number of personnel will be civilian.
The four-star appointment will give a higher profile to AFRICOM and, if
confirmed, Ward will serve as the Pentagon's point man for selling the new
command. While AFRICOM has largely been well received in Washington, the
Congressional Research Service in a recent report noted "considerable
apprehension" in Africa over US intentions. Delegations led by US military
and diplomatic officials have visited the continent over the past few
months, looking to drum up support for the concept.
Gen Ward brings broad geographic expertise to the job. Currently based at
the US European headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany, he has served in Korea,
Egypt, Bosnia and Israel, along with a variety of assignments in the US.
Before taking his current job, he was deputy commanding general and chief of
staff for US Army Europe and Seventh Army. In that capacity, he served as US
security co-ordinator for the Palestinian Authority from March through to
December 2005.
Gen Ward also has experience in Africa. His biography notes that he served a
tour as a brigade commander in Somalia, where US forces led a UN-sanctioned
intervention in response to a humanitarian crisis in 1992 and 1993. In a
recent article for Joint Forces Quarterly, Gen Ward wrote: "Seeing the
victims of the famine gave me stark reminders of why we were deployed there:
to provide security to allow the international relief efforts to happen."
That stabilisation effort, by and large, was a failure. Gen Ward further
argues in the article that success in post-conflict situations requires a
new approach: "History shows that we have to be prepared to intervene early,
with clear goals, authorities and responsibilities understood by the parties
to the conflict and among the international and interagency partners
involved."
AFRICOM has been described as having a strong focus on 'non-kinetic'
missions such as humanitarian aid, disaster relief and military training
programmes. It is also aimed at shoring up stability in a region that has
taken on greater strategic significance for the US in terms of energy
supply. As deputy European commander, Gen Ward has also visited the Caspian
region: another area where energy security is an important priority.
At present, US Navy Rear Admiral Robert Moeller is director of the AFRICOM
transition team. Several locations are being studied for the new AFRICOM
headquarters; DoD officials have told Jane's the command is also studying a
'distributed' headquarters at several locations.

Egyszeruen kezd elegem lenni abbol, hogy egyik hivatal sem csinal semmit...

Lassan huzok vissza a csaladhoz. Lehet, hogy par napon belul utanna utazok Iranba. Egy csecsen haverom hivott meg vendegbarati latogatasra, mert fia szuletett. Asszony parazik utazni, en meg szivesen elugrok oda, mert
1. Iranban meg sohasem voltam.
2. Rendes srac az illeto, pedig anno meg egymasra lottunk.

Tenyleg elfaradtam a sok baromsagtol. Inkabb irok es utazom.

P.S. Tisztelt csaladodat, parodat, fiadat udvozlom es a legoszintebb jokivansagaimat kuldom. Nagyon elvezetes volt ismet talalkozni es beszelgetni. Elnezest, ha kisse ,,nyomott,, hangulatban voltam, egyszeruen utobbi idoben sok problema nehezedett ram, ezert kisse bamba voltam.

Elnézést, de három hét alatt csak most tudtam bekukkantani a netre (a postámat átolvasni már nem volt időm/most sincs).
Nyugodtam rakd be Che fordítását ahová jónak látod.
jelenleg szinte használhatatlan könyv, de alapmű. (Változott a kor, a helyszín és a viszonyok).

Valamikor majd elkészülök Marighella, Mao, Frunze és Trockij fordításaival, illetve várom az 1945-ben, Németországban Wervolf számára kiadott kiképzőkönyvet is.

Egyszerűen tele van már a hócipőm a rengeteg hazai túllihegett parázással a téma terén. Ezeket a könyveket Magyarországon kívül már réges-rég kiadták és hozzáférhetővé tették a világ egyéb országaiban.
Többek között azért, hogy a rendvédelmi és karhatalmi szervek is ismerjék.

Őszintén szólva kezd elegem lenni a sok marhaságból, ami körülvesz. Nekiesek, és írok majd egy szaktanulmányt, aminek az lesz a címe, hogy:
,,Kis háború: partizánháborúk, felkelő mozgalmak, gerilla hadviselés, terrorizmus. Történelem, hagyomány, stratégia."

Gondolom érdekes olvasmány lesz a yardnak is. (Az ókortól napjainkig. Minden, ami ezekbe a kategóriákba sorolható, alapművekkel, oktató anyagokkal, kiképző könyvekkel és történelmi tapasztalatokkal alátámasztva. Iratok, dokumentumok, fotók, stb.)

Úgysem csinált még senki sem ilyen tanulmányt és történelmi összefoglalót. (A 120 oldalas amerikai alaptanulmány kivétel, de nagyon hiányos.)
