Afrinaktov OKBM has completed the check assembly of the 2nd reactor of the first floating nuclear power plant
Afrinaktov OKBM OJSC has completed the check assembly of the 2nd reactor of the first floating nuclear power plant. The assembly and the acceptance testing of the reactor were carried out at Nizhniy Novgorod Machine Building Plant. It was the joint project of Afrikantov OKBM (design and technical support), Izhorskiye Zavody (manufacturing of reactor shell) and Nizhniy Novgorod Machine Building Plant (fabrication of components and assembly of the reactor).
The acceptance committee comprised representatives of Nizhniy Novgorod Machine Building Plant, Afrikantov OKBM, Directorate for the Construction of Floating NPP, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and the Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Supervision (Rostekhnadzor).
The shell of the 2nd reactor was delivered to Baltiysky Zavod (St.Petersburg) on Aug 5. The internals will be shipped in mid Aug.
The shell of the 1st reactor was shipped to Baltiysky Zavod on May 31. It was also built by Afrikantov OKBM, Nizniy Novgorod Machine Building Plant and Izhorkiye Zavody.
Afrikantov OKBM is the chief designer of and complex supplier of equipment for the two KLT-40S reactors of the first floating nuclear power plant. The contract between OKBM and the owner of the project, Energoatom Concern, was signed in 2006.
Afrikantov OKBM is part of Atomenergoprom OJSC, an integrated state holding consolidating the civil assets of Russia’s nuclear industry. |

Baltiysky Zavod is to complete the floating plant in 2011. It should then be ready for transportation by the second quarter of 2012 and is set to be handed over to Energoatom by the end of 2012.
