Jennifer's 2004 tennis season is over.
Her chance to qualify for the WTA Tour Championships ended with her loss to Vera Zvonareva in the quarterfinal match of the Advanta Championshops. Jennifer played only one tournament indoors this autumn, while the other contenders for the final two spots in the Championships, like Vera Zonareva and Venus Williams, played three and more tournaments. Jennifer will not be competing in the year - ending event for the first time since 1999. She has been bothered with injuries during this season and played only 12 tournaments, compared to 18 in 2003, 17 (2002), 17 (2001), 20 (2000). But even though Jennifer couldn't qualify for the WTA Tour Championships, she had a great year.
She missed the Australian Open in January due to a back injury and had some disappointing losses when she first step on court after an injury lay-off. Then she had quite solid results, especially at the Grand Slams, reaching 2 semifinals - at the French and US Opens and a quarterfinal at Wimbledon. She also reached a final in Rome; semis in Doha and Berlin; quarters in Montreal, New Haven and Philadelphia. Jennifer finished the season at the 10th spot in the WTA Rankings.
Jennifer said: "I still consider this a great year. I've been pretty consistent the whole year, especially at the Grand Slams. Now I will take some time off and regroup mentally".
Take care, Jennifer, and have a great time at home with your friends and family! We are waiting to support you in 2005! |
