Barthez eyes Euro return

Fabien Barthez is in the frame to make Manchester United's Champions League return tie against Zalaegerszegi, according to Sir Alex Ferguson.
The France goalkeeper has been sidelined for three weeks with a hip injury picked up at the Amsterdam Tournament during pre-season. But Barthez looks set to ease Ferguson's goalkeeper crisis ahead of United's third round qualifying tie against the crack Hungarians next Tuesday, after making good progress in training.

Barthez will not travel to Stamford Bridge for Friday's Premiership encounter with Chelsea, but Ferguson said: "Fabien won't be fit for Friday at Chelsea but maybe OK for Tuesday against Zalaegerszegi.
"He is doing his training and we are quite hopeful."
Barthez's impending return could force Ferguson to rethink his plans for a foray into the transfer market.
The United chief admitted at the weekend that he was intent on strengthening his resources in the goalkeeping department, having seen Raimond van der Gouw, Paul Rachubka and Nick Culkin depart Old Trafford during the summer - leaving just Roy Carroll as recognised cover.
Juventus' Fabian Carini is touted as a potential target having seen his proposed one-year loan move to Arsenal fall through.

A blank in Budapest last week and just a solitary goal against West Brom on Saturday has brought about doubts that United are not yet firing on all cylinders, but Ferguson is far from worried.
"Last season we started the term against new boys Fulham and we conceded two goals but won 3-2," Ferguson added. "The press immediately homed in on our defence. I think it is better at this stage this year to be winning 1-0 than 3-2 because if we lose goals then the critics will be saying it is our defence again.
"The goals will come. There'll be no problem about that.
"We are creating chances and that is the main thing. Goals will always follow if you create the opportunities.
"We made five clear one-versus-ones in the match against West Brom and we had five other good chances.
"The opportunities were there. It was a steady performance and we kept our patience. When we started to gamble we were creating chances all over the place. They'll go in eventually.
"I played three in the centre of midfield because we wanted to make sure we didn't allow them into the game and we controlled possession.
"West Brom will be a difficult side to break down at times this season. They had 27 clean sheets last year and won 12 matches 1-0," Ferguson told the Manchester Evening News.
