Beckham injury "should clear up"

David Beckham said he hopes to be fit for England"s friendly against Holland in Amsterdam.

Beckham suffered injuries to both ankles in Manchester United"s win at Charlton in challenges with Jason Euell and Scott Parker.

The midfielder will not train at all on Monday, but speaking at the launch of England"s World Cup kit in London, he added that he expects to be fit to face the Dutch.

"I got three or four knocks on the same spot," Beckham said. "I won"t be training today but, fingers crossed, I will tomorrow.

"Hopefully I will play on Wednesday - it should clear up. It"s an England game and anyone does anything to get fit for any England game.

"It"s always good to meet up with the lads, we don"t get much time but the time we do get we enjoy and we"re looking forward to it," he told Sky Sports News.

Beckham said he was excited about the approaching World Cup finals but added: "We"ve got to be careful not to get carried away too much because the group stages are going to be very difficult, but, if we can get through, we can do well."

He welcomed the new additions to the squad and revealed he was relaxed about recent issues at Old Trafford, including the situation surrounding his and manager Alex Ferguson"s contract.

"I"m relaxed, it"s only people around me getting excited about certain things that are going on, I"m always relaxed."

On Wednesday"s match, Beckham added: "We did not do too well against them at White Hart Lane and we want to play better than that.

"I"m sure their players will be looking forward to it from speaking to Ruud (van Nistelrooy)."

The Football Association, mindful of the current bad weather in Amsterdam, have asked their Dutch counterparts to close the roof at the Amsterdam Arena ahead of Wednesday"s game.

But Beckham was not unduly worried about the conditions in Amsterdam, adding: "I suppose it would help the preparation (if they close the roof) but we"re going to acclimatise before we go to Japan and South Korea."
