Del Potro Returns To Argentina

Juan Martin del Potro returned to Argentina Friday night on the advice of his doctors as he continues his quest to regain full fitness following a respiratory illness. 

Del Potro, who played this week in Rome but withdrew from the Portugal Open two weeks ago, has suffered a decline in 'physical and respiratory capacity' due to the rest taken to recover from a bronchial spasm, according to his camp. A bronchial spasm is a sudden constriction of the muscles in the walls of the bronchioles.

Del Potro's doctor recommended that he return to Argentina for further medical treatment to speed his recovery. There was no comment on the likelihood of him returning to Europe to compete at Roland Garros, which begins Sunday, 26 May.
