SkyEurope aims to exit bankruptcy protection by mid-October

Central European carrier SkyEurope Airlines is aiming to complete its restructuring and emerge from bankrutpcy protection in mid-October, although the process could drag on into early 2010.
Investment firm Focus Equity says it expects to purchase up to €16.5 million ($23.4 million) of new shares issued by the airline when it completes its restructuring.
Focus Equity says its involvement is "entirely dependent" on the airline's successfully restructuring, confirming one of the conditions previously outlined by the carrier. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Focus Capital, which already holds about 10% of SkyEurope.
Once Focus Equity has acquired the new shares, it will add them to those of Focus Capital, although the size of the ensuing combined stake in SkyEurope has not been confirmed.
A spokesman for Focus Equity says the entity has "100% trust" in SkyEurope's business now, but also confirms that Focus will not mount a full takeover.
"The problem in the past was that there was too much trial and error on the routings and we think the airline reached a stability about half a year ago without our help," he adds.
The spokesman says October is viewed as a target date to complete the restructuring but that the process could stretch into next year.
Problems still remain for SkyEurope: one of its aircraft is still being held at Paris Orly - a grounding which the spokesman describes as "totally illegal" - and low-cost rival Wizz Air is planning to start operations at Bratislava.
