Do you think the role of "punk rock" has changed in the last decade or so? Naturally, the issues punk rock rallied against in the 70s/80s aren't exactly the same issues of the people of this society. What are your thoughts on this?
The voice of the people will always be punk rock. And punk will always mean rebellion. At one point, the hippies spoke up but were too stoned to destroy. When punk started rearing its ugly head, it was first about the music scene - and the lack of raw, simple, chaotic rock bands and music. The Stooges, Ramones, and New York Dolls created music that did not immediately identify with mainstream audiences for example but they were all setting the stage for other changes that would eventually change everything, and after many decades, these bands also have finally received the recognition they deserved in the first place. MC5 really should get the most credit for bringing the voice of the people into a "punk" attitude though, but they too were brought down by the "man" before they could make a massive difference in awareness to the youth of the world. It took the Sex Pistols with massive hype and publicity to literally destroy to its core the music world. They get the highest honor in my book for taking it to the "man" and defining what punk and rebellion still stand for. The Clash took this ideal started by the Pistols and made it authentic and important. The Dead Kennedy's, with the genius Jello Biafra fronting, opened up the minds of the youth as did Black Flag who forced it even hard down with a hard core approach; both creating a vital DIY "business" movement in the process. Only in the '90's did joke bands like Blink 182 and Sum 41 dishonor the genre by becoming bubble gum shite, singing about farts, snot, and dating break-ups. These "Pop" punk bands were fueled by millions of dollars by the major record labels and to many, this type of "punk" is all they know. The times have changed and because of the state of the world: musically, politically, and socially - a new punk explosion is happening all over again with bands bringing back punk to the roots of it all. There are more punk bands from the original wave getting back together in the last two years than ever before. Even Black Flag is reuniting to perform again. What does that mean? It means there are millions of fed up people out there with the state of the world: musically, politically, and socially!
You said that you're "fed up with the current state of the world musically, politically, and socially". Can you explain this statement and what would you do to change things?
We are fed up with the system. Fed up with how people have become enslaved beyond recognition. Almost everyone has become boring passion-less zombies doing whatever the system tells them to do, watches what they are told to watch, listen to what they are told to listen to, act the way they are told to act, go to Church when they don't even believe, etc etc. This humankind of today is hooked on whatever is put in front of them and they have lost their souls' emotions and power to follow their dream. Society has corrupted for thousands of years the free spirit of humankind and now with so many toxins put into our foods and water, there is no other escape but to revolt, destroy, and re build it all. There is a revolution going on that is not televised and everything is in motion to combat the greedy power bankers of the world who have accomplished a lot in the last century. Greece - were I and the other two band members are from- will be overtaken by the citizens soon enough and once other countries wake up to the reality of it all, there will be a world-wide takeover by the people, for the people with representatives in Governments that will serve the people. For example, the American president John F. Kennedy was a pawn for "them" when he said the people should ask what they can do for their country. It is the totally opposite: the country should ask the people "what can we do for you?!" The 99% will rise up once they get off of their couches and stop watching TV relentlessly, and stop playing video games when they could be making love, playing or experiencing music, when they could be communicating, when they could be exploring! Once they start thinking and then start acting - they will come to know that they can live a fulfilling life even if governments will still rule society. Just watch the people of the world destroy the hypocrisies and lies of the Church and Governments and "freedom" will be a word that is actually experienced in reality, not in "hope", "Heaven", or in another life. Life is NOW and will always be. So wake up!
Barb Wire Dolls have been awarded the "best live act" and have been called "the best punk band since The Ramones", and your move to Los Angeles was likened to when the Sex Pistols invaded America in '78 . Which bands/artist have had the most impact on you?
The Doors had the most impact on me early on as a child. It wasn't until I watched "The Song Remains The Same", the Led Zeppelin concert film that I was immediately inspired to become a singer but that was only a few years ago. The Slits changed my life too. Ari Up was vital to me understanding a "girl's" place in rock and roll. She told me about her life and her history in the London punk scene along with The Sex Pistols, Clash, and Damned and after singing with her and The Slits on stage; I was a new woman! I owe the most inspiration to her. She opened the door to me that anything is possible with positive action and commitment.
How was it working with Steve Albini?
Effortless. He is the master of recording a band like it really sounds. In time, he will be regarded as the most important recording engineer to have ever lived. Only Steve can capture the true, raw energy of a band without using any digital equipment and convert that sound to a 2" tape reel. Even though his bands Big Black, Rapeman, and Shellac are massively important to the history of Rock, nothing really sets him more apart than his technique of recording a band. He has some mystery about him and that adds to the legend of his recorded albums, from Nirvana's "In Utero", Pixies "Surfer Rosa", to so many more great seminal albums. If you can imagine that Jimmy Page produced all of Led Zepellin's albums and when he and Robert Plant decided to record together again; they hired Steve and trusted his process to produce a magical sound above any other producer or engineer in the world including themselves. I mean, if U2 offered him over 3 million dollars to record their new album - and he turned them down because Bono wanted to "track" everything (and spend many months in the studio), - only shows his pure and humble devotion to the "art" and "realness" of rock music.
In regards to the Music + Riots magazine quote about your Barb Wire Dolls debut album SLIT being "the best punk record since Nirvana's Bleach", that's all tall order. What do you make of that? And what sort of influence was Nirvana on you ... I hear touches of Nirvana on "Revolution" and "Devil's Full Moon."
If you were to read the full review you would see that this critic is serious about this album and his claim of it being that "important" of an album. We don't compare albums, but as far as the last two decades are concerned - I personally have not been moved by any new music especially in the Punk genre. I know our album SLIT destroys as does our live sound. As for Nirvana being an influence, somehow that influence just came out spontaneously during the recording. We were all shocked when we heard the album back and could also hear the touches of that band. There will never be another Nirvana, Black Flag, or another Sex Pistols, or whatever. And I wouldn't say that this quote compares us to Nirvana, it is more of an observation by the magazine's editor and his opinion of punk rock releases of the past 20 years or so.
It's good to finally hear a punk record that actually sounds raw. In these days of Pop Punk, everything is so polished. Were these songs recorded live or at least close to live? They have that sort of feel.
We recorded it in two nights and recorded all live including my one vocal track. Pyn (guitarist) added some guitar flourishes afterwards. All it takes is one or two nights to make an album. Not years like Linkin Park or Coldplay and budgets in the many millions. Rock and Roll is simple, raw, honest, and inspiring. You cannot fake it like an orgasm or a "promise". Everyone knows what is real. It's time to start being real again. But then again the zombies out there live in a false reality, and they may remain "comfortable" living like un-knowing slaves...until the fire reaches their couch.

Tehát aki jön és nem akarja lekésni kedvenc bandáját és bandáit az legyen jó időben a helyszínen a Dürer-Kertben kapun belül. Ez a vidéki fanoknak is szól !
